Thunder varsity boys lose to Maize and Maize So. 5-3 to Maize and 4-1 to Maize South.
Thunder JV/Varsity sweep Gardner-Edgerton  5-3 for JV. 14-4 for the varsity.
Opening Day of baseball was a success. Thunder varsity boys beat Lawrence High 12-2.

BRIAN BUCKLIN

Head Coach Brian Bucklin is in his 11th year with St. James Academy baseball. In 2012, in just the 7th year of the program, the Thunder were crowned as back-to-back Class 4A State Champions winning the title in consecutive years in 2011 and 2012. Along with this success, the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches (KABC), and the Johnson County Sun named Coach Bucklin their Coach of the Year in 2011. Under Coach Bucklin St. James has posted a record of 125-67, a .651 winning percentage and has led 12 players who were recognized as All-State performers, and one Player of the Year (Jake Wodke, 2011) and one Pitcher of the Year (Matt Eckelman, 2012) by the KABC for the Thunder. Brian has also served as a hitting instructor for the nationally recognized Sluggers Baseball Academy from 2004-2006 coaching the 17/18u, 18u and the 15u teams. In all, Brian has personally developed over 70 players that have gone on to play college baseball.

At St. James Academy Coach Bucklin teaches in both the Social Studies and Physical Education departments. Along with his baseball coaching, he has been an assistant football coach from 2008-2011. Academically, Brian earned a Master of Arts degree in School Leadership from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS in the spring of 2011. His undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Iowa in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and teaching certification. At Iowa he was a member of the baseball team from 2000-2003 and was a 4-year letter winner for the Hawkeyes as an outfielder.

Coach Bucklin is the main administrator of the Thunder Baseball Club, a developmental baseball program for young players in the Kansas City area, which includes camps, lessons, and teams for high school aged players in the summer. For Johnson County 3 and 2 Brian has been an administrator of various baseball camps and coaching clinics since 2009. Before coming to St. James and the Kansas City area, Coach Bucklin was the freshman coach for Cedar Rapids Prairie in Cedar Rapids, IA the summer of 2004. In Iowa City, IA he worked for Diamond Dreams Baseball Academy doing private lessons, organizing camps and running youth programs from 2002-2004.

Coach Bucklin grew up in Creston, Iowa and graduated from Creston High School in 1999. There he was named to the 1st team All-State, All-District and All-Conference baseball teams in 1998 and 1999 and was named the captain of the 3A All-State Team in 1999 by the Iowa Newspaper Association. Coach still holds 2 school records at Creston High School for batting average (.550) and home runs in a season (18). His home runs in a season ranks 8th all-time in Iowa high school baseball history and had 40 career home runs. Was named the Southwest Iowa Athlete of the Year in 1999 by the Omaha Nonpareil and received All-State recognition in football, basketball and was a state track qualifier
